Nick felt, saw it in his opponent. That was fear, fear that was quivering in the eyes of his opponent.
Nick smirked.
“You have grown weak, Kaleth,” he taunted.
Kaleth controlled his fear and straightened his face. “No. It is you that has grown strong. But..”
“But what?”
“But you have sacrificed much for that strength. Too much.”
Nick narrowed his eyes. “I deserve this strength.”
Kaleth sensed the weakness and he drew the last traces of fear from his face. “No, you do not. You are using strength that is not your own, for a will that is not your own, for a cause that is not your own. Now you are merely a puppet, Nick.”
Nick’s demon blade howled, and he let his anger flow through his body, feeding his sword.
“Puppet?!? I’ll show you! You aren’t even worthy to be sacrificed to my God!”
Nick swung his blade and Kaleth parried. Before Kaleth could even recover from the first attack, the demon blade was already whirling to attack his other side. Kaleth ducked only to see the blade swinging straight for his chest.
As Nick left his former idol to rot, he felt a wave of agony. For a second, his conscience screamed at his deed, at the multitude of crimes he had committed. Then the second passed and he was once more the heartless dread knight.
